Mixbook is a new platform, with a lot of potential uses. With this online application, you create a scrapbook complete with themed backgrounds and embellishments.
You can collaborate online through sharing the link, which means it can be a group effort. It is image and text based; I haven't tested whether or not videos and/or music can be added in. Mixbooks can stay online and be shared, or you can print them out at reasonable cost.
As it's quite new and has been mainly used by families or individuals to create scrapbook photo albums, I see real potential for a number of learning uses (besides the yearbook and documenting type):
* Character-based scrapbooks
* Novel books - have a 2-page spread for characters, setting, main events, etc - students can stage photos or find images to add in
* Class reading log - each student gets a two-page spread to fill in with book covers and a blurb about the books they've read (for example)
* Continuing the story book - text and images? Who doesn't want to make a picture book?
SAMPLER
This is just a scrapbook I made to document my family's travels. One thing I learned was that when you change the size of the book, you have to go back and resize your text as this doesn't seem to happen automatically.
a) Create Mixbook account and explore the themes, styles, additions to get a feel for the program and product
b) Select size of the book (most important if you plan to print the book, as it will tell you if the images will be blurry for that size book)
b) Exploration of the topic: mood, audience, purpose of the book - a "mission statement" or vision-plan would be useful here.
c) Research and collection of images to include - possibly concurrent with text content creation
d) Development of the product - either individually, or in collaboration
e) Check and double-check as some elements seem to go a bit wonky if you change book size later on, or as you add/remove other elements.
f) Students can publish online - once published, it can no longer be changed by anyone but the first-up creator to set up the book.
g) Make sure they send you the email link!
** As you can see here, these mixbooks are embeddable into other web pages. However, they're better viewed on the mixbook site directly as the size and control of page turning/zoom is much better.

This wiki is a collaborative synthesis of available resources for educational purposes.**
