ANIMOTO

With Animoto students create a dynamic book report video by integrating music, photos, quotes and video clips.

Animoto analyzes these audio-visual tools that the students use, and organises an individualised video.

A ‘remix’ function facilitates an easy revamp of the photos and music the students incorporate.

The Animoto ‘video’ book report can be shared on a student blog or website, or downloaded to computers as a presentation.

SAMPLER

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I made this animoto as an intro to the poetry of Langston Hughes.

I wanted my students to get a taste of the sounds and time of his life.

Island School Library's site has a quick task for making a book blurb - http://www.island188.org/home/?p=262

This works for the freebie, basic (non-education) 30-second limited accounts.

One book review from this library site: http://www.island188.org/home/?p=277

Book review from another site (adult novel, Numinon): http://animoto.com/play/tA17iRPBExT7wFGpEy4Sug

This one is quite long ... obviously, a full account or educator's account as there's no time limit!

A resource site with plenty of info and how-to links for Animoto: http://teachweb2.wikispaces.com/Animoto

GENERAL PLANNER

a) Decide what length of videos you will want created - (free) 30-second or (longer) paid-for or educator account.

b) Either set up free accounts, or get an educator account. This can take a few days to be approved.

c) Set the topic and parameters of the project: maximum number of images (varies depending on time), music selection (there is free music available, or you can up upload your own), use of text. A storyboard project, using powerpoint slides as images, will be able to accommodate more text than the text-on-video feature in the program itself.

d) Collect more images and text than you'll need; edit down to "best of's"

e) Create a storyboard (if there is a storyline) or an order of images/text

f) Put it together

g) "Share" it - kids will need to either post the link to you, or otherwise share their specific link with you.
