Great Ideas

Page history last edited by Tamara 3 years, 6 months ago

There are many, many excellent ideas out there. This list is a link to several good web sites, blogs and articles which can give inspiration, assistance and/or just plain old support - technology is an ever-evoloving but not necessarily ever-simplifying process!

Wesley Fryer

http://teachdigital.pbwiki.com/

Wesley Fryer is an educator, author, digital storyteller and change agent. He addresses a range of topics related to education, technology integration, distance learning, and twenty-first century literacy.

His sites are thoroughly annotated and contain ever-growing records of various technologies to enhance, increase or boost interest in communication arts.

Here is a video of his presentation, "Creating and Collaborating: The Keys to 21st Century Literacy" given on 14 November at the ODLA (1 hour)

(PS - ODLA is the Oklahoma Distance Learning Association)

"Identity Production in a Networked Culture: Why Youth Heart MySpace"

2006. American Association for the Advancement of Science, St. Louis, MO. February 19.

http://www.danah.org/papers/AAAS2006.html

This paper runs down the psychology behind a number of social networking services and the whys and hows of their popularity amongst teens. Understanding how things like MySpace or Facebook serve particular needs of teens offers insights in how we, as teachers, might incorporate them - or elements of them - into our projects.

PBWiki "Summer Camp"

http://pbwiki.com/content/eduportal-camp

The people at PBWiki organized a 6-week long summer camp with a variety of interactive media (streaming video, chat, projects, peer review, etc) to extend and showcase wiki possibilities. It is a great opportunity to expand your skills, see what other tools are out there, connect with other educators - and all on your own time. You can also get a great, free wiki upgrade if you participate (this is how I got a platinum wiki for my mrswy wiki....)
